The new centre is Mahle’s third such IT centre after Mexico and Poland.
Expects to double manpower strength over next 3 to 5 years.
Company is already BSVI-ready.
Mahle, one of the world’s leading automotive components manufacturer and supplier, opened its Engineering, IT and Sales Shared Services Centre in Pune today, 28 February 2019. This is the German company’s third such IT centre -- after Poland and Mexico -- and the only global sales shared centre in the world.
Mahle India already has a sizeable presence in India, with a factory and campus spread over 55,000 sq ft employing over 450 engineers and technicians. With this new expansion, the company’s engineering centre will become an integral part of Mahle’s global R&D network, opening up its services to all its divisions, be it conventional internal combustion-powered or electrified powertrains. The centre supports systems such as SAP-PLM and CAD applications such as Catia and UG, to name a few.
Talking to the media at the event, top Mahle officials stated that the centre was developed in recognition of the design prowess and frugal engineering capabilities of Indian engineers. The company expects to double its manpower strength over the next three to five years. The officials also took this opportunity to reiterate their commitment to a sustainable and green future for the planet. To this end, Mahle is actively working on alternative fuels and more efficient methods of transportation, albeit with ICE-powered vehicles as its core focus right now.
Mahle is also proud of the fact that the company is already BSVI-ready.
Speaking on the occasion, Arnd Franz, Corporate Executive Vice President, OE- Automotive Sales and Application Engineering, said, “India is at the epicentre of Mahle’s dual strategy; as part of the global green initiative there is a rising trend towards development of hybridisation and electrification although IC engines are here to stay, especially in a market like India. Given this market scenario, Mahle has developed a dual strategy by which it will continue to remain and provide optimal solutions for IC engines while simultaneously developing solutions for electric mobility. Mahle has defined its mission to offer innovative mobility solutions that stand for clean air, fuel efficiency, and driving pleasure.”
“As an engineering centre this is a unique one. Worldwide, even though we have R&D Centres for specific business units this one will service the entire world from here itself, thus proving the “One Mahle” Global approach. Mahle already has a strong presence in India (represented by all 4 BU’s / division through 14 plants generating 278 Million. EUR with HC of 4400 employees), but we need to take it to next level, therefore at the core of the organization sits the shared services; supporting multiple locations, globally. Mahle in India has greater ambitions, not just of a manufacturer, but of a Shared services provider as well” Raj Kalra, President, Mahle Holding (India), added.
Mahle is represented in 34 countries and has 170 production locations worldwide with around 80,000 employees on its payroll. Last year, the company generated sales of approximately 12.8 billion euros.
