Veteran superbike racer, Rajini Krishnan, won the first race of the fourth round of the Malaysian Superbike Championship on a rain-drenched track. The race was difficult, but Rajini’s initial gamble of running on slicks paid him off by the end of the race. With this victory, he has qualified at sixth place in the Malaysian Superbike Championship overall.
Round 4
In the first race, which was declared wet, he fell back to the thirteenth position at the very beginning of the race, thanks to the slicks. However, the track was partly dry at a certain section, which prompted Rajini to go for slicks in the first place. It did pay off, once the conditions got better, and after the fifth lap Rajini started to overtake other riders. His late stride was so effective that by the eleventh lap he overtook the third and the fourth rider in the grid. Things got interesting when, on the last lap, he overtook the rider on the first place and clinched the top spot on the podium.
Despite the downpour, the second race was declared a dry race as the marshals found the track ideal. The race started with Rajini in the second position by the second lap. However, on lap number seven, a tank slapper dropped him a few positions back on the grid. He had to restart after figuring out the issue that caused it, meanwhile, losing valuable time. Thankfully, upon restart, he was able to overtake two more riders. However, he was only able to finish fourth as the time ran out.
Round 5
Just like the fourth round, the fifth round had two races, however, both of these went bad for the Chennai-based racer. In the first race, he had a terrible crash because of another rider who crashed into him.
In the second race, the effects of the crash on Rajini’s bike made it difficult for him to utilise his bike's full potential. The bike’s frame got damaged and further into the race Rajini was forced to return to the pits due to a faulty clutch.
