All the uncertainty about fuel prices in the minds of consumers has definitely taken a toll on passenger car sales. With diesel prices set to increase gradually consumers are once again looking down the petrol way of motoring.
To capitalise on the situation, Maruti Suzuki has decided to introduce CNG versions of the Ertiga to boost sales of the MPV, which have become more or less static since its launch in April 2012. The CNG variants will follow a special edition variant called the Ertiga Feliz which Maruti has launched recently to drum up interest. According to reports, a senior company official said, “The idea has been to have two fuel options available for every model. Normally, we offer a CNG option only on models that have a petrol engine as a lot of work is needed to modify the engine and the suspension.”
Maruti Suzuki is planning to introduce CNG versions of the Ertiga in LXi and VXi variants by mid June 2013. The CNG kit equipped Ertiga is expected to be priced Rs 30,000 over the standard Ertiga LXi and VXi models. There will be no CNG option for the top of the line ZXi variant of the Ertiga. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is currently available in three variants each of both petrol and diesel with prices ranging between Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 8.45 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
