Maruti Suzuki’s Future-S concept was one of the biggest talking points of the 2018 Auto Expo. Designed completely in-house, the Future-S previewed the company’s design language for future products and also gave us a taste of what it’s Renault Kwid rival would look like. We now know that the hatchback will be called the S-Presso. And based on previous spy shots, we know it will get an SUV-like styling. A fitting name then for a hot new hatchback.
Likely to be placed between the Alto K10 and the WagonR, the S-Presso is expected to be priced just under the Rs 4 lakh mark for the entry-level variant. Given that it’s primary rival, the Kwid 1.0, is currently priced from Rs 4.2 lakh onwards, the S-Presso is likely to offer good value for money and could be another bestseller from Maruti in the hatchback segment.
The S-Presso is likely to be powered by the Alto K10’s 1.0-litre engine, albeit with upgrades to meet BS6 emission norms. It’s expected to be offered with the choice of a 5-speed manual as well as an AMT. The hatchback is also expected to be feature packed with inclusions like a touchscreen infotainment system, reverse camera, dual airbags, ABS with EBD, and more.
The new hatchback is expected to make its debut around this year’s festive season. When launched, it will rival the likes of the Renault Kwid and the Datsun redi-GO. It will be sold via Maruti’s well-established Arena chain of showrooms and will look to appeal to younger buyers with its SUV-like styling.
