The 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross facelift has been launched in the country at a starting price of Rs 8,49 lakh, with the top end Alpha trim being priced at Rs 11.29 lakh (both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Yes, the top end’s price is considerably cheaper than before, and that is because the car has ditched its more powerful engine and is now only available with one powertrain. What else is new -- read on to find out.
Here are the new prices as compared to the older car.
Variant | Sigma | Delta | Zeta | Alpha |
Facelift Price | Rs 8.49 lakh | Rs 9.39 lakh | Rs 9.98 lakh | Rs 11.29 lakh |
Pre-Facelift Price | Rs 8.06 lakh | Rs 8.83 lakh | Rs 9.96 lakh | Rs 10.70 lakh |
Difference | Rs 43,000 | Rs 56,000 | Rs 2,000 | Rs 59,000 |
Though the S-Cross still looks pretty much the same its personality has completely changed now, all thanks to the new, more aggressive grille and muscular bonnet. It has traded its subtle, oversized hatchback nature for something which strikes you in your face when you look at it. It also gets LED lights all around in the headlamps, DRLs and tail lamps, and new 16-inch alloy wheels with wider-section rubber.
Inside, things remain almost identical to the pre-facelift car. You still get a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, MirrorLink and inbuilt navigation. There is a tilt/telescopic adjustable steering, leather upholstery, automatic climate control and cruise control. In terms of safety, you get dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts right from the base variants.
Now, coming to the heart of the matter, the 1.6-litre diesel is no longer available in the lineup, as it would have categorised the S-Cross as a luxury car and increased the prices. Hence, what you get instead is Suzuki's SHVS hybrid tech paired to the 1.3-litre DDiS 200 motor. It makes 90PS of power and 200Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed transmission, and there’s no hope of an AMT just yet.
The S-Cross is the only crossover in a pool of compact SUVs, and thus will have to play ball with the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Honda BR-V. If you wish to know how the S-Cross facelift is to drive, check out our first drive review here.
