The average Indian car buyer has evolved over the years and has begun to appreciate better equipped and more aesthetically appealing cars -- a fact that was proven in May 2013 when the relatively pricier, bigger and better equipped Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire compact sedan outsold its entry-level Alto 800 hatchback sibling ending the Alto’s longstanding reputation as the country’s best selling car.
The Alto 800 has now come back fighting with a new top-end VXi variant that packs in more features and styling elements than the earlier top-of-the-line LXi variant.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 VXi packs in additional equipment such as central locking, a USB compatible stereo that is hooked to four speakers, left outside rear view mirror and a driver’s side airbag as standard. Cosmetic enhancements include door side mouldings and a rear spoiler. Other equipment aboard the Alto 800 VXi includes, air conditioning with heater, power steering, front power windows, dual tone upholstery, dual trip meter, clock, remote fuel lid and hatch opener, tubeless tyres body coloured bumpers and door handles, etc.
Priced at Rs 3,17,080 (ex-showroom Delhi) the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 VXi is Rs 13,581 more expensive than the Alto 800 LXi in Delhi, which is not much of a difference considering that all the additional features are rather useful.
The Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is powered by an 800cc three cylinder petrol engine that develops 48PS of power @ 6,000 rpm and 69Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The Maruti Alto 800 is also available with a CNG kit option.
Buyers can choose from six colour options for the Maruti Alto 800 that include the following shades, Superior white, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Frost Blue, Blazing Red and Torque Blue.
Prices for the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 range from Rs 2,77,275 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the standard variant with non-metallic paint to Rs 360499 (ex-showroom Delhi) for the CNG compatible Alto 800 LXi variant.
