Late last month, Maruti Suzuki announced that the Ciaz facelift, which was initially slated to launch in early August, has been delayed to the second half of the month. Set to hit Nexa showrooms on August 20, the Ciaz facelift will be better placed to take on the competition, which includes the Hyundai Verna, Honda City and the new Toyota Yaris.
While Maruti Suzuki hasn’t opened bookings for the sedan yet, select few Nexa dealers from across the country have started accepting pre-bookings already. Deliveries are set to commence by the last week of August 2018.
Spy shots have shown that the Ciaz facelift gets a slight redesign inside-out. The headlamps have a new projector setup with partially blackened elements. Although the overall design is the same as before, the LED DRLs make the headlamp units look sleeker than before.
When compared to its predecessor, the grille looks more sophisticated while the bumper has become more angular.
The side profile and rear of the Ciaz facelift haven’t received too much attention with this facelift, with the changes limited to the tweaked taillamps that now get LED elements.
Inside, the overall design seems to have received minimal updates with the biggest change being the use of faux unpolished-wood inserts. In terms of equipment, the changes will be limited to the addition of cruise control and a more functional multi-info display (MID). The spy shots seem to confirm that Maruti will not offer the Ciaz with a sunroof, a feature which is highly sought after by customers in this segment.
The Ciaz facelift is all about the new powertrain - specifically the all-new 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder naturally aspirated K-Series petrol engine. The exciting news is that this petrol motor will be paired with the company’s SHVS mild-hybrid setup which, along with an efficiency-biased engine tune, should result in high fuel efficiency figures. The same engine powering the second-gen Ertiga in Indonesia develops a maximum power of 105PS and a peak torque of 138Nm. In comparison, the outgoing model’s 1.4-litre engine develops 92PS/130Nm. The engine will be paired with both manual and automatic transmissions, though their specifications are not yet known. The Ciaz will not be offered with a diesel motor at launch, with sources indicating the decision has been taken as a result of changing customer preferences.
Prices of the Ciaz are expected to increase slightly. The petrol variants are currently priced from Rs 7.83 lakh to Rs 10.63 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Meanwhile, stock clearance of the last units of the pre-facelift Ciaz should mean attractive discounts for interested customers.
