Update 16th May 2017 - Maruti Dzire 2017 Launched! Prices start at Rs 5.45 lakh!
Back in 2008, Maruti Suzuki entered the sub-compact sedan segment with the Dzire. Needless to say, the Dzire, which is in its second-generation now, was a huge success with 13.8 lakh units sold so far. With the recent launch of the Tata Tigor, Hyundai Xcent facelift and the Volkswagen Ameo along with fierce competition from other manufacturers in the segment, it was time the Indo-Japanese car maker upped its game with an all-new Dzire.
Maruti Suzuki unveiled the third-generation Dzire in India today. Allow us to take you over five things you should know about the latest compact sedan from the largest car manufacturer in the country.
Evolutionary design with modern touches
Based on the lightweight Heartect platform that also underpins the Baleno and the upcoming Swift hatchback, the new Dzire is now significantly lighter and more spacious. - When compared to the current model, the petrol and diesel variants are lighter by 85kg and 105kg respectively.
The Dzire’s design has now evolved with an all-new headlamp cluster, hexagonal grille with chrome surround and a redesigned front bumper. The rear now gets LED tail lamps with guide lights and you also get an updated multi-spoke, dual-tone alloy wheels. The design is a lot more flowing compared to the outgoing version and has a better integrated boot as well.
The interiors follow the same layout seen on the upcoming Swift, but on the Dzire, you get a new dual-tone layout with ‘burl’ wood panels. You also get a multi-functional, flat-bottomed steering wheel with similar wood inserts. The boot space has gone up from 316 litres to 376 litres.Rear passengers are now treated to extra legroom, rear AC vents and an armrest with cup holders.
Tried & tested engine-gearbox combinations
The new Dzire carries forward the same 1.2-litre petrol motor (84PS/115Nm) and the 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine (75PS/190Nm). The power and torque outputs of both the engine remain the same. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and an optional 5-speed automated manual transmission (Maruti’s AGS) unit for both the diesel and petrol powered variants.
Feature loaded to keep up with the competition
To keep up with the cut-throat competition in the segment, the Dzire now comes equipped with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment with navigation, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. You also get automatic LED projector headlamps with integrated daytime running lights (DRLs) and automatic climate control. In terms of safety, the all-new DZire will be equipped with dual airbags, ABS (anti-lock braking system), EBD (electronic brakeforce distribution), seatbelts with pretensioners, and ISOFIX seats as standard.
Competition check
The new Dzire has its task cut out in the segment which recently saw the launch of the Tata Tigor, the Hyundai Xcent facelift and the Ford Aspire Sport. The Honda Amaze, Volkswagen Ameo and the Tata Zest are other rivals that the new DZire will have to tackle in this cut-throat segment. The second-gen DZire is currently the largest-selling sub-compact sedan in India and Maruti Suzuki will hope to retain that position with the launch of the all-new Dzire.
More variants & shades on offer
The all-new Maruti Suzuki Dzire will be offered in 14 variants with the Zxi+ and Zdi+ being the top-end models. For car buyers looking at an automatic compact sedan, both the petrol and diesel versions of the all-new Dzire will be available with a 5-speed AMT (automated manual transmission) gearbox. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki will offer the new Dzire in six shades - Oxford Blue, Sherwood Brown, Gallant Red, Magma Grey, Silky Silver and Arctic White.
The all-new Dzire will be launched on May 16. Although Maruti Suzuki hasn’t revealed the prices of the new Dzire, we expect it to cost Rs 20-30,000 more than the outgoing version which is priced at Rs 5.35-8.58 lakh, ex-showroom New Delhi.
