The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is set to get its first update next year. The 2020 Ignis facelift is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2020 that’s set to be held in Greater Noida between February 7 and February 12. We now have images of the upcoming facelift that leaves nothing to imagination. Let’s have a closer look at the updated Ignis, shall we?
Changes to the 2020 Ignis are so subtle that it’s a blink and miss affair. Styling updates include a new grille that takes design influence from the S-Presso. Then there are the new bumpers (front and back) that come with silver inserts and make the Ignis look tough and butch. The silhouette, head lamps, alloy wheels and tail lamps are almost the same when compared to the existing Ignis.
The interior of the 2020 Ignis facelift is yet to be revealed. That said, the updates are expected to be minor. One can expect an updated infotainment system (Maruti’s new Smartplay unit), a new colour scheme and upholstery design.
Expect the updated Ignis’ feature list to be identical to the current model. Highlights includes Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, climate control, steering mounted audio controls, a multi-info display, dual airbags, ABS with EBD as well as rear parking sensors.
Under the hood, the Ignis will most likely chug on with its tried and tested 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine with BS6 upgrades. The engine in its upgraded BS6 avatar develops 83PS and 113Nm which is identical to the BS4 unit. That said, we expect a marginal dip in fuel efficiency. Currently, the Ignis boasts a claimed fuel efficiency of 20.89kmpl. Transmission options for this engine include a 5-speed manual and AMT.
The updated Ignis is expected to launch in India in early 2020. Expect it to command a marginal premium of Rs 25,000 over the current model which starts from Rs 4.74 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the 2020 Ignis facelift will renew its rivalry with the Ford Figo, Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
