Maruti Suzuki launched the new Ignis a couple of weeks after its Auto Expo 2020 unveiling. Not a lot is different, but its 1.2-litre engine has been updated to meet BS6 norms. As the Baleno’s more interesting stablemate, the new Ignis takes its SUV aspirations up a notch with a new grille and faux skid plates.
The new engine makes 83PS of power and 113Nm of torque as before. There is no diesel variant on offer, but Maruti claims a fuel economy of 20.89kmpl for the 1.2 petrol. If you’ve given into its charms already, here’s a list of the Ignis’ features for each variant:
Sigma
The base Maruti Suzuki Ignis costs Rs 4.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It is only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox and is the most clean-looking Ignis you can buy. There are no roof-rails, rear spoiler, chrome grille or moulding of any sort. Since Nexa Safety Shield is standard across all variants, the Ignis gets a decent safety kit on board.
Exterior:
Body-coloured door handles and outer rear view mirrors (ORVMs)
Steel wheel without a wheel cover
Interior:
Single-coloured black dashboard
Front power windows with auto-down driver’s window
Tilt adjust steering wheel
Air conditioner and heater
12V socket
Safety:
Dual front airbags
ISOFIX child seat anchorage
Seat belt pretensioners
ABS and EBD
Rear parking sensor
Delta
the automobile community
If you have the means to skip the base model, the Delta variant is much better equipped. It costs Rs 5.66 lakh for the manual transmission variant and Rs 6.13 lakh for the AMT automatic (ex-showroom Delhi). If you plan to carry rear seat passengers often, you’d prefer this variant since it adds rear power windows and adjustable rear seat headrests.
Exterior:
ORVM turn indicators
Fender and side body moulding
Roof rails
Spoiler
Steel wheel with wheel cover
Interior:
Dual-tone dashboard
Front passenger vanity mirror in sunshade
Tachometer
Chrome accents on AC vents
Steering mounted audio controls
Bluetooth audio with two speakers
Rear power windows
60:40 split rear seat
Keyless entry
Electrically adjustable (but not folding) ORVMs
Day and night inside rearview mirror (IRVM)
Safety:
Adjustable rear headrests
Security alarm
Zeta
We wish this variant got a couple of more features, but it keeps its appearances well. You get a bunch of cosmetic and functional exterior features. With a standard transmission, the Ignis Zeta retails for Rs 5.89 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The convenience of an automatic demands the same Rs 47,000 premium for an ex-showroom price of Rs 6.36 lakh.
Exterior:
Alloy wheels
Chrome grille
Fog lamps
Interior:
Set of 4 speakers and 2 tweeters
Push-button start and stop for the engine
Electrically folding ORVM
Safety:
Rear windshield wiper
Rear windshield defogger
Alpha
The top-spec Ignis is priced at Rs 6.73 lakh and its AMT variant costs Rs 7.20 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the Ignis you see in the pictures, with LED headlamps and accent lighting on the speedometer.
Exterior:
Puddle lamps in doors
LED projector headlamps
Daytime running lights (DRLs)
Interior:
Smartplay Studio with 7-inch touchscreen, navigation, and voice commands
Driver’s side seat adjustment
Automatic climate control
Safety:
Rear parking camera
The top-spec Ignis is well-equipped for the segment, but we wish a few of its perks were available on the lower-spec models. A rear parking camera may be a premium feature, but what about driver’s seat adjustment? Maruti has aimed the Ignis at Millennials, but Millennials will have to shell out big bucks for the advanced infotainment and LED lamps.
