Maruti knows just too well how to attract millennials, the target audience for its upcoming hatchback, Ignis. No wonder then its launch event on January 13 will reportedly be headlined by Swedish DJ Axwell. That’s not all. Bookings for the car have begun online - just the place where millennials like to spend most of their time! Interested in booking the Ignis? Just head over to the Nexa Experience website and make a token payment of Rs 11,000 to book one. Of course, you can also book one the old school way at a Nexa dealership. The bookings are being accepted for a token amount of Rs 11,000 and can be made at any Nexa showroom or online via logging into the Next Experience website.
Once launched, the Ignis will primarily rival the Mahindra KUV100 aside from the Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo. Expect prices for the Maruti Ignis to start around the Rs 4.5 lakh mark.
Speaking of engines, the Ignis borrows them from the trusted Swift and Baleno hatchbacks. The petrol mill is a 1.2-litre VVT unit making 83PS of max power at 6000rpm and 113Nm of peak torque at 4200rpm. The diesel motor is a 1.3-litre unit which makes 75PS of max power and 190Nm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to a five-speed manual gearbox; AMT transmission will be on offer with both the mills as well. The mileage of the petrol and diesel variants is claimed to be 20.89kmpl and 26.80kmpl, respectively.
As for the features, the Ignis is loaded to the brim with all kinds of bells and whistles. For example, the top-of-the-line Ignis will come with automatic climate control, LED headlamps and DRLs, puddle lamps, trapezoidal five-spoke all-black alloy wheels, dual-tone exterior, reverse camera and a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system running Suzuki's SmartPlay system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink. Personalisation options, like the ones available on the Vitara Brezza, will also be on offer with the Ignis. For starters, the exterior features two types of roof wraps – Terra & Sprint – and the interior can be dressed in exterior body-colour accents.
The Ignis will be retailed through the Nexa line of showrooms and will slot under the Swift though expect some overlapping in prices.
