Maruti Suzuki has launched what they call the "Royal Platinum Extended Warranty Program". Yes, the name is cheesy but the contents are anything but. The program covers the vehicle for five years or 1 lakh kilometres on "unexpected repairs".
The best bit is that the program is not just limited to brand new cars rolling out of showrooms. If you've got a Maruti that's a couple of years old (and still in primary warranty), you can opt for the extended warranty as well. Also, if you've already got a Gold or a Platinum warranty, you can upgrade to the five-year plan by paying the difference in cost.
Prices for the extended warranty vary, based on the age of the car. Maruti has split the car's age into three categories for classification - 0-60 days, 61-365 days, 366-730 days. Here's a quick look at what the extended warranty costs.
The warranty program brings with it a free of cost emergency service assistance. Needless to mention, the warranty will be honoured across all Maruti Suzuki authorized workshops.
Maruti says that nearly 70 per cent of the 1.2 lakh vehicles it sells monthly are covered under extended warranty. Until now, vehicles could be covered for one or two extra years over the standard two-year assurance.
Partho Banerjee, Executive Vice President (Service), Maruti Suzuki India, said, “The cost of ownership is an important aspect in buying and maintaining a car for the customers. The Royal Platinum Extended Warranty program aims to give extended assurance to our customers. This unique program is aimed to deliver extended peace of mind while customers continue to enjoy unmatched service experience of Maruti Suzuki car care at our dealership network.”
The fifth year of warranty ups the peace of mind quotient for Maruti vehicles like nothing else. Of course, manufacturers such as Honda and Toyota offer similar lengthy period warranties - and we're glad to see Maruti join the ranks.
