Maruti Suzuki India issued a recall for 33,098 vehicles. The recalled vehicles include the Maruti Alto 800 and the Maruti Alto K10. According to Maruti, the reason for the recall is a defect noticed in the right hand door latch assembly. If both the right hand side door (front and rear) is completely latched there is no problem according to the four-wheeler manufacturer. However, if the doors aren’t properly latched, they have a tendency to open if pressure is applied from inside. 19,780 units of the Maruti Alto 800 and 13,318 units of the Maruti Alto K10 manufactured between December 8th, 2014 and February 18th, 2015 have been recalled. For this purpose, Maruti dealers from across the country will contact owners of the affected batch of cars. Maruti technicians will inspect the affected Alto 800 and Alto K10 and will replace the faulty parts free of cost.

According to Maruti Suzuki India, the defect was noticed during the internal quality checks undertaken by the manufacturer. To help customer identify if their car falls in the affected batch of cars or not, Maruti Suzuki has setup a special tab on their official website. On the tab consumers have to type in the chassis number of their car to get a confirmation whether their cars need inspection or not. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice / registration documents. Also Maruti Suzuki customers have the option of contacting their nearest Maruti Suzuki dealer workshop to ascertain if their vehicle is among the above vehicles.
