It's finally here! Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Jimny at Auto Expo 2020. There's been massive interest in the SUV, particularly among enthusiasts, for a long time now. And further good news, the Jimny will be coming to India soon. The display car you see here is a three-door version.

In terms of design, the Jimny looks like a miniature of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen. The silhouette is upright and the squared flared wheel arches make it look butch. The front-end comes with traditional elements such as round headlamps and a slatted grille. Meanwhile, the spare wheel has been mounted on the tailgate, just like in a typical SUV. The Jimny measures 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width, and has a ground clearance of 205mm.

Unlike the Gypsy, the Jimny isn’t a barebones SUV. It comes with a host of equipment like touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver information display, and automatic climate control. Safety kit includes forward braking assist, shock-absorbing seat design, 6 airbags, and ESP and ABS.

The Jimny is powered by a K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine developing 102PS and 130Nm. It's the same motor found in the recently launched Vitara Brezza. We expect Maruti to offer it with a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic. Being an off-roader, it will most likely feature an all-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny will most probably hit showrooms by 2021. It will rival the new Force Gurkha and the next-gen Mahindra Thar.
