Maruti’s most expensive offering is all-set to get a makeover. It isn’t particularly pretty, and we hear the fun 1.6-litre diesel is on its way out too!
The New S-Cross Facelift

The S-Cross, the first product to be sold through Maruti Suzuki’s premium car dealership Nexa, is finally getting its mid-cycle facelift. The updated version was released globally in July 2017, and will make its Indian debut sooner than expected.

The facelift, as the name suggests, doesn’t have much to offer except for some cosmetic changes. These modifications are most notable at the front end of the car, where it has been redesigned to look aggressive. To attain this effect, the updated S-Cross has a relatively upright stance and a new chrome grille with vertical slats flanked by LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs. It also features a sportier set of alloy wheels and redesigned ORVMs.

Inside, the cabin gets new upholstery. The touchscreen will be updated to support Android Auto in addition to the Apple CarPlay connectivity option that it currently supports.

On the safety front, we expect no changes. As before, the car will come with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts as standard across the range.

The S-Cross will feature the same 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine that develops 90PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque. However, reports suggest that the S-Cross may now sport the mild-hybrid tech (SHVS) which claims to improve fuel efficiency by an estimated 7 per cent. Hence, like the Ertiga and the Ciaz hybrid, the S-Cross is likely to see a rise in price thanks to additional GST cess on cars with hybrid powertrains.

Internationally, the S-Cross gets a pair of Boosterjet turbocharged petrol engines. However, we’re expecting Maruti Suzuki to skip the petrol engine for the crossover this time round. Also, rumour mills indicate that Maruti Suzuki plans on discontinuing the larger 1.6-litre engine due to lack of demand.

While bookings for the refreshed version will commence soon, some Nexa dealers have already started accepting pre-bookings for the car for a token amount of Rs 11,000, which is completely refundable. The updated crossover is likely to cost between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 12.5 lakh when it goes on sale.

If you want to know more about the car, stay tuned to ZigWheels for our take on the new S-Cross, as we will be driving it on the 26th of this month.
