The only other limited edition Swift model India has seen in recent times was the one million edition, which celebrated the company’s sale of a million cars. To be very honest it was a rather poor aesthetic commemoration of a very commercially successful car. Sportier versions of the Swift hatchback however have been pleasing crowds at international motor show for years now, leading to the fundamental question, which is “When are they coming to India?”
Well, brace yourselves as Maruti has just brought in a limited edition RS version of its third generation Swift hatch with new styling and graphics that give it a distinct sporty character and looks. There’s that slight Volkswagen world rally car inspiration to the choice of black and blue colours, and a RS badge which is reminiscent of the brand with the four rings.
But in all fairness, the Swift RS does carry certain signature interior and exterior style elements, courtesy its 3-piece body kit that make it a far more visually appealing and sporty looking Swift model as compared to the standard model.
This includes front and rear bumper enrichment and a roof spoiler. Black wheel covers have also been introduced in the limited edition model. The outside rear view mirrors come in the signature theme colour of blue. An illuminated Swift emblem at the sill on all four doors is also something to look out for before you step inside the vehicle.
On the inside the Swift RS provides its passengers with upholstery crafted in art leather with black and blue colour combinations like on the outside. The floor mats carry forward the same rally RS theme. For entertainment purposes the special edition Swift has a high-end music system with CD player, AUX-in and USB facility.
On the introduction of Swift RS, Manohar Bhat Vice President (Marketing) Maruti Suzuki India said, “The Swift RS is in continuation of Maruti Suzuki’s celebrations planned around Swift model as it moves towards the “1 million” cumulative sales mark. Swift not only pioneered premium compact segment in the country, it continues to remain the no. 1 selling car in the segment. Swift has cumulatively sold over 9.6 lakh units since its launch in May 2005.
With an additional price of Rs 24,500/- the Swift RS will be available in VXi (Petrol) and VDi (Diesel) variants at Maruti Suzuki dealers across the country from early July 2013, for a limited period.
