Do Not Miss It!: Our comprehensive First Drive Review of the 2018 Maruti Swift
UPDATE: Everything you need to know about the new Maruti Swift
If you have been drooling over the images of new Swift for past few months and can’t wait to get your hands on one, we have some good news for you! According to our sources, various Maruti Suzuki dealers across the country have started accepting bookings for the new Swift for a token amount of Rs 11,000. As this news has come just a month ahead of the Auto Expo 2018, we believe the launch of the third-gen Swift could take place at the biennial event.
The new Swift is based on the Heartect platform that underpins the Baleno and the Dzire. Expect the new Swift to be packed with all the bells and whistles seen in the above-mentioned cars as well. Starting with safety, the Swift is likely to be offered with ABS, dual airbags and ISOFIX child seat anchorages as standard across the range. It could also get features such as LED DRLs, automatic headlamps and automatic wipers. Maruti Suzuki is also expected to equip the new Swift with comfort features such as an automatic climate control, rear AC vents and a SmartPlay infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
However, there is still one thing that the new Swift is expected share with its predecessor. Yes, you are right! It's the engines. The new Swift is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine which produce 84.3PS/115Nm and 75PS/190Nm, respectively. Both engines are likely to be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. However, we expect Maruti Suzuki to offer the new Swift with an automatic transmission as well. We believe it could be the AMT from the Dzire. Whether the AMT variants will be available from launch or introduced at a later stage is something we’ll have to wait and see.
When the launched, the new Swift is expected to receive a slight bump in prices over its predecessor, which is priced between Rs 4.58 lakh and Rs 7.46 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The new Swift will continue to compete against cars such as the Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo, Honda Brio and the Toyota Etios Liva.
