Maruti Suzuki Wagon R crosses 15 lakh units sales mark

Launched back in the year 2000, Maruti Suzuki’s Wagon R has driven a long way. One of the best-selling models of the company the Wagon R has crossed the 15 lakh cumulative sales mark in the domestic market.

Commenting on this achievement, Manohar Bhat, Vice-President, Marketing, said, “Launched in 2000, Wagon R has been amongst India’s top five best-selling brands. With its space, features and comfort, Wagon R has been the choice of the ‘Smart customer’ and consistently remained among India’s most loved car brands.”

For FY14, Maruti managed to sell 1.56 lakh units of the WagonR. For FY15, the brand has already managed to clock 93,000 units of the hatchback.

Maruti Suzuki had expanded its Wagon R portfolio by bringing the CNG trim to India in 2010-2011. The company through its media release stated that in cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, where CNG is available, Wagon R CNG accounts for over 50 per cent of sales.

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers Association (SIAM), Wagon R was the third best-selling car in the country last month with sales of 14,310 units.

Earlier this year, the company's compact car, the Maruti Suzuki Alto, had become the second model from the company's portfolio to cross the 25 lakh sales unit mark in the domestic market.
