The Maruti Suzuki Alto happens to be the best selling car in India. Clocking large numbers month on month, Maruti is now offering the Alto with a Maruti authorized CNG kit. The CNG version will only be available for purchase in the Delhi-NCR region.

Incidentally, this is the first time that Maruti Suzuki has introduced a CNG run vehicle for personal transportation. Earlier bi-fuel vehicles from the Maruti stable include the Wagon R Duo and the 800 Duo, both of which featured LPG kits. With the widespread popularity of CNG usage in personal cars the Alto is set to witness a boost in sales, as the car will offer a rather cheap cost per kilometer.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager, Maruti Suzuki said, "Customers find Alto as a highly attractive package in terms of value offered by this car. The Alto has emerged as the most preferred car in India for its drivability, superior mileage, low ownership cost and overall reliability. We are confident that the Alto with a CNG option makes this car even more attractive for customers. For Maruti Suzuki, this is also an important initiative towards a safer and greener NCR Delhi."

The CNG kit, which includes a 12kg CNG tank that can hold up to 7.5 kg of CNG, comes with a Lamda distributor and Advancer which allows for better gas flow and improved pick up. The kit will be fitted only on brand new Alto cars before delivery to the customer. The cost of a CNG Alto will be Rs 43,545/- more than the price of a regular Alto. The warranty of 2 years/40,000kms will remain intact on the CNG version as well.
