Maserati has quietly introduced their first luxury SUV, the Levante, in India. Though an official launch is expected to take place in August, the Levante is available with all its three Indian dealers in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. The starting price of the Maserati Levante is as follows -
Delhi - Rs 1.49 Crore
Bangalore - Rs 1.55 Crore - Rs 1.75 Crore
Mumbai - Rs 1.63 Crore
All these prices are ex-showroom and customers can further customise their SUV with a load of options and accessories. In India, it will rival the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and Land Rover Range Rover Sport.
In India, the Maserati Levante is available as a CBU. Globally, it is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, although we get only the diesel. The engine we are talking about here is the one from the Quattroporte - a 3.0-litre V6 diesel which produces 271PS of peak power and 600Nm of peak torque. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the engine sends power to all four wheels via an AWD setup. The Levante launches from 0-100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 230 kmph.
Since the Levante is a Maserati, it needs to drive like one too. Hence, the SUV has been given torque vectoring, hydraulic steering and 4 drive modes - Auto Normal, Auto Sport, Auto Manual, and Auto Off-Road. In Off-Road mode, the Levante can increase its ride height to avoid scraping its belly.
Design wise, it's hard to confuse the Levante for anything else but a Maserati. The design of the iconic front grille, the three air vents on the side fenders, and just the stance of the SUV reeks of Maserati heritage. Inside, the 'sports' of the SUV is evident from the minimalistic cabin and the large touchscreen in the centre. These interiors have been designed by renowned fashion house Ermenegildo Zegna. The 8.4-inch screen provides info on climate control, paired smartphones navigation and audio. The steering wheel is a classic three-spoke unit with paddle shifters and the sound system is either a Bowers & Wilkins or Harman Kardon unit.
Other Maserati cars in the country include the Ghibli, Quattroporte, GranTurismo and the GranCabrio.
