Its in-house designed Nettuno engine makes 630PS/730Nm, paired with an 8-speed DCT gearbox.
It does the 0-100kmph sprint in less than 2.9 seconds, with a top speed of over 325kmph.
Features a sleek body with butterfly doors, trendy alloy wheels, sharp headlights, and a rear diffuser.
Cabin highlights include two digital screens, wireless charging, and Maserati Connect with connected navigation.
It will rival the Ferrari F8 Tributo and the India-bound McLaren 720S.
Our sister publication, PowerDrift, suggests Maserati is set to bring over its newest sports car, the MC20, to India with deliveries slated to begin around late Q1 2022. Unveiled globally in September 2020, the MC20, which succeeds the legendary MC12, boasts a sleek design, nifty features, and an in-house twin-turbo V6 motor.
What really makes the MC20 stand out is under the hood. It debuts Maserati’s new in-house-developed Nettuno engine: a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 motor that pushes 630PS and 730Nm. Paired with an 8-speed DCT gearbox, it can do the 0-100kmph sprint in less than 2.9 seconds with a top speed of over 325kmph.
What’s special about this engine is that it gets F1-inspired tech in the form of a pre-chamber combustion system featuring twin-spark plugs. It reduces noise low down in the rev range, lowers emissions, and improves fuel consumption in the process.
Despite the beefy motor, the MC20’s monocoque carbon fibre frame makes it a featherweight, at 1,500kg. This enables a power-to-weight ratio of just 2.33 kg/hp. It's also aerodynamically efficient, with a drag coefficient under 0.38. It gets five drive modes: GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and ESC Off that alter the handling characteristics, throttle sensitivity, and suspension settings.
The MC20 is also quite the looker with a sleek body that’s poster worthy! Up front, it gets a mesh grille, with the traditional trident flanked by a sleek pair of headlights and a front splitter. It also features a trendy set of 20-inch alloy wheels, horizontal tail lamps, dual exhaust tips, and a prominent rear diffuser. All this is complemented by butterfly doors for that premium sports car feel during ingress.
The cabin blends sportiness and premium luxury, with carbon fibre accents around the centre column, steering wheel, and paddle shifters, while the rest of the cabin is shod in a mix of Alcantara and stitched leather. It also gets a raft of features, such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Maserati Connect with connected navigation, Alexa, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and a wireless smartphone charger.
The Maserati MC20 is expected to launch in India at around Rs 3.5 crore (ex-showroom). It goes up against the likes of the Ferrari F8 Tributo and the upcoming India-bound McLaren 720S.
