Right on the heels of Honda announcing its one lakh diesel engine sales milestone, we now learn from the Japanese carmaker that the Mobilio has received 85 percent of its bookings for the diesel version. We expected high numbers for the diesel in the range of around 70 percent considering the body style and usage for long hauls but the numbers are higher than expected. An interesting fact revealed by Honda is that 42 percent of the Mobilio’s customers come from joint families.
The Mobilio is in huge demand selling 3,365 units in its first month with numbers expected to rise this month. The company has already received over 14,000 bookings since its launch and the high demand prompted the company to shift production of the City from Honda’s Greater Noida plant to Tapukara in Rajasthan to free up the assembly line for the Mobilio.
The Mobilio RS is yet to commence production, and will only be available in showrooms sometime next month. The City on the other hand, after a month’s break to shift tooling and other production requirements to the Tapukara plant, will resume production on September 5.
The Mobilio’s diesel engine is the most efficient unit in the MPV segment or any seven seater on sale in India for that matter. It takes on the Innova and Ertiga in the MPV segment.
