MG Motor has announced that its upcoming 7-seater SUV based on the Maxus D90 will be called the Gloster. Set to make its debut at Auto Expo 2020, MG’s third SUV for India will go on sale later in 2020 and take on the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour, among others.
Compared to the Maxus D90 sold in China, the Gloster will come with the now-familiar MG honeycomb mesh front grille and a dash of chrome around the fog lamps. The Gloster could also come with redesigned bumpers and alloy wheels for further differentiation.
Inside, the Gloster’s dashboard could be similar to the Maxus D90, which is no bad thing. The floating infotainment screen and digital dials look premium and look eerily similar to BMW cabins.

The MG Gloser is expected to come loaded with features like i-SMART connected car technology, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, a premium sound system, ambient lighting and powered front seats. Expect standard safety features such as 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera and electronic stability control.
Under the hood, the Gloster could utilise the Maxus D90’s 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines. The turbocharged petrol engine puts out 224PS of power and 360Nm of torque. This unit is offered with a 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic. We expect both engines to be offered with an all-wheel drive system. The diesel engine is a twin-turbo unit that develops 215PS of power and 480Nm of torque. It’s limited to an 8-speed automatic on the Maxus D90.
The MG Gloster is expected to be priced from Rs 40 lakh (ex-showroom). When launched, the Gloser will lock horns with the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the Mahindra Alturas G4.
