With just over 500 B-Class petrol models sold in 10 months since being launched in the Indian market, you wouldn’t say Mercedes-Benz has really got the long-distance luxury travel buzz going just yet.
Having said that, a diesel variant of such a travel focused up market vehicle was always going to be on the cards for obvious reasons. Looking to cater to the need of the hour, Mercedes-Benz has just launched its B-Class with a diesel motor at a price of Rs 22.6 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The diesel motor doing duty under the hood of the B180 CDI Style is the same as the one powering the A-Class, C-Class and E-Class models. Featuring a state of tune similar to the A-Class hatch, the 2143cc in-line 4 cylinder oil burner produces 109PS of power and 250Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox that sends power to the front wheels.
The B-Class diesel has a 50 liter tank capacity and an impressive mileage of 18.98 Kmpl which provides great touring capabilities. It is available in four color options: Jupiter Red, Cirrus White, Polar Silver and the new Monolith Grey.
Commenting on the launch of the B-Class diesel, Eberhard Kern, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, said, “With the B-Class we have pioneered the Luxury Tourer segment in India and the launch of the B-Class diesel will further enhance the options for the new age customers who aspire to own a luxury brand like Mercedes-Benz."
With the launch of the B-Class diesel as its backdrop, Mercedes-Benz has also launched a special Luxury Touring Trails contest with Aditi Rao Hydari and Abhay Deol as its brand ambassadors. The contest requires participants to visit Mercedes-Benz showrooms and click pictures there and upload them on the website www.readyToB.in. One lucky winner will get to drive the B-Class diesel for an entire year and also go on a trip with the contest’s brand ambassadors to a destination of their choice.
The Mercedes Benz B-Class diesel has been introduced in a single variant only, and will therefore feature most luxury and safety features as we have seen on the top-end B-Class petrol model. It will however, miss out on kit like a dual sun-roof and will ride on smaller 16-inch alloy wheels. Interiors of the B-Class including leather upholstery, the COMAND interface and the array of safety features such as ABS, Collision Prevention Assist and seven airbags.
