Mercedes India is planning to bring the C-Class Cabriolet to our shores by the end of this year. The German carmaker has already introduced a few cars such as the GLC and the GLS-Class out of its 12 cars slated for this year. It will certainly keep its launch pace up to keep up with Audi, which is set to launch the A4 and A3 in the coming months.

The Cabriolet carries a striking resemblance to the C-Class sedan but its design is largely similar to the C-Class Coupe, except for the convertible soft top. The Coupe, however, is not available in India and the Cabriolet will also be brought in as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) which will easily push its price towards the upper crust of the standard C-Class lineup (excluding the AMG version), maybe around Rs 60-65 lakh.

Powering this drop-top C-Class will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor producing 248PS of power and 370Nm of torque. All of which is sent to the rear wheels via a nine-speed dual clutch transmission. Dimensionally, the C-Class Cabriolet will be tighter than the C-Class sedan and will also lose a few kilos in terms of weight. The C-Class Cabriolet sits under the E-Class convertible, which is powered by the 337PS 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol motor.

This two-door C-Class will certainly act as a brand strengthening product rather than a mass focused product, as is the case with the convertibles. Speaking of its rivals, it doesn’t have any. The C-Class Cabriolet will get a host of safety assistance systems such as attention assist, collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
