India gets its first OEM-spec campervan with a kitchen and rooftop tent at Auto Expo 2020
  • The Marco Polo is available in four- and five-seater variants.
  • In top-spec trim, it gets a kitchenette complete with a foldaway table, sink, and stove.
  • A roof-mounted tent and rear seats, which turn into a bed, make for two separate sleeping spaces.
  • It also gets connected car features and an MBUX infotainment system.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the V-Class Marco Polo campervan in India at Auto Expo 2020 with prices starting at Rs 1.38 crore (ex-showroom) for the Horizon variant. The campervan version of the V-Class MPV is a fully furnished mini-mobile home with a roof-mounted tent and even a mini kitchen! As a factory-spec camper, the V-Class Marco Polo stands in a niche of its own. Mercedes-Benz India has launched the campervan in two variants, the Marco Polo Horizon and the Marco Polo, which is priced at Rs 1.46 crore (ex-showroom). Now, that's one classy way to go camping.

The exterior is identical to the V-Class MPV barring a removable lid above the rear-left fender. That’s for the auxiliary power input and water inlet for the fully functional sink. Other than these, there are no giveaways that this V-Class hides a full camper within its sliding door.

Inside, the V-Class Marco Polo is nothing like its luxury MPV sibling. The front seats can be swivelled around to face the rear seats. The last row of seats fold out into a cozy bed, while there is also a roof-mounted bed. You also get storage compartments and an overhead tent.

In the other variant, you get an entire kitchen crammed into one side of the cabin. There’s storage space for utensils and clothes, a stove, and a sink with running water. A foldaway lunch table is also provided. Both variants can be equipped with plastic or wood flooring.

Internationally, the V-Class Marco Polo competes with the Volkswagen California. Campers were made popular by Volkswagen, but the Marco Polo has its own legacy. The original Mercedes Marco Polo was built in the 1980s using the same vehicle, which Force Motors produces as mini buses in India. We can’t wait to get a good look at this one.
