Posts its highest ever monthly sale of 833 units in March 2011 reflecting a growth of 89% over March 2010

The end of the current financial year seems to have left most luxury car manufacturers in India ‘on a high’ rather than ‘high and dry’. And though it isn’t uncommon to see sales soaring at this time of the year, it must be said, that in the case of one luxury car maker in India, the upward trajectory has been remarkably consistent right from the day its first car rolled out of its Chakan plant in Pune.

Sales of Mercedes-Benz passenger cars in India developed positively throughout 2010, with double-digit increases every month. The German car maker has carried forward the same level of growth in the new year, which been bolstered to an extent by its expanding dealerships across India and other promotional activities centered around its 125th year of existence in the automotive world.

At the end of the First Quarter in 2011, Mercedes-Benz has managed to sell an admirable 2135 units, 883 of which have come from the month of March alone. This remarkable performance translates into an impressive growth of 67% over the corresponding period last year (Jan-March 2010: 1282 units).

This stellar sales performance in Q1 2011 has once again been powered by the German auto maker top selling luxury sedans, the C-Class (983) units and the E-Class (789) units, which continue to lead their respective segments.

Speaking on Mercedes-Benz’s healthy sales growth month after month in India, Mr. Peter T Honegg, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “Our recent introductions like the ultra premium Maybach, the iconic off-roader G55 AMG, the SLS AMG and the uber-luxurious E-Cabriolet among others, represents the sophisticated, sporty, and passionate DNA of brand Mercedes-Benz. Such products continue to enthrall our young customers and automobile enthusiasts in the country, and our sales numbers reflect this appreciation of our customers. ”

(All the above figures are Wholesale figures. Wholesale is a term that indicates the cars billed by the manufacturer - in this case Mercedes-Benz India to its dealerships).
