This year around 210,000 readers from 14 European countries, as well as China and Brazil, took part in the longstanding survey to decide the best cars of 2012

The new M-Class

Both outright performers in their own rights, the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class and the streamlined SLS AMG Roadster are modern day manifestations of Stuttgart’s finest. And while, globally renowned vehicle inspection and quality rating agencies and institutions will soon give out their verdicts on these cars, veteran motoring magazines, the likes of “auto motor und sport” have indeed a say in the matter.

In action since 1977, the specialist German motoring magazine recently conducted its longstanding reader centric “Best car of the year” survey across ten different categories and among those victorious was the new Mercedes-Benz M-Class in the off-road vehicles category, and the SLS AMG Roadster in the cabriolet class of vehicles.

The two German cars were voted over other equally competitive automobiles by a majority of “auto motor und sport” readers, which this time around was a solid 210,000 from 14 European countries, as well as China and Brazil.

SLS AMG Roadster

The new M-Class impressed readers with its upgraded interior comfort improved driving dynamics both on and off road, and its outstanding range and high level of safety. The G-Class picked up second place.

In the case of the cabriolets, the readers of "auto motor und sport" placed the SLS AMG Roadster in pole position, honouring it as the best car of 2012 in its category.  This was a significant acknowledgement of the super sports cars lightweight construction, superior driving dynamics and exemplary safety.
