  • The A-Class and B-Class are the current models under the MFA2 platform that offer hybrid variants.
  • Expect a similar powertrain setup as the A 250e and B 250e variants
  • Expect minor tweaks to differentiate themselves from their internal combustion engine counterparts
  • The three cars could debut one after the other later this month.

Mercedes-Benz is all set to have an electrified assault this month by teasing plug-in-hybrid iterations of the GLA SUV, CLA sedan and CLA Shooting Brake in a Facebook video.  This reveal continues the carmaker’s recent push for electrification with cars like the EQC SUV.

All three models are built on the same Modular Front Architecture 2 (MFA2) platform, which is compatible for electrification. The current models under this platform that are offered with plug-in-hybrid variants are the A-Class hatchback/sedan 250e and B Class MPV 250e.

Under the hood, both A 250e and B 250e variants utilise the same powertrain setup. It consists of a M282 1.33-litre turbocharged petrol engine delivering 160PS of power and 250Nm of torque. The hybrid motor makes  75kW/102PS and 300Nm. The two motors combined produce 218PS and 450Nm, paired to a 8-speed DCT transmission. The electric motor is juiced up by a 15.6kWh battery pack and offers a NEDC-claimed range of 70-77km. Expect a similar setup in the three upcoming hybrid cars from Mercedes-Benz.

Also, expect some subtle tweaks for these hybrid models to distinguish themselves from their ICE counterparts. This may include EQ branding, different cabin colour options, as well as new graphics for the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. While there is no exact date for their debuts, expect them to follow one after the other later this month.
