Mercedes has officially revealed the Maybach 6 Concept coupe in pictures before its showcase, which is slated for this weekend – at the Monterey Car Week. As Mercedes puts it, the Maybach 6 Concept takes inspiration from the 'classic aesthetic proportions' of the Maybach aero coupe’s design from the 1930s. However, if you ask me, I would simply put it as Darth Vader’s – yes, the same dark intergalactic light-saber–wielding warlord from the Star Wars epic – daily driver. Of course, he would want one of these to shake off some of the stress that comes with his attempts to conquer the universe.

So, the 5700mm long (!) massive boat of a car is the latest drool material that Mercedes has come up with to tease us. Also, the German manufacturer claims that the car features several futuristic technologies that might find their way to the real world. So, the car isn’t just here to fascinate us with its advanced layout, but also provides a glimpse of the marque's future.

First up, it’s a purely electric machine and is powered by four electric motors – one at each wheel. The electric motors will draw power from an 80KWh capacity battery, whose power output will be close to 748PS. Moreover, the low-end torque that electric cars inherently have will enable it to cross the 0-100kmph sprint in under four seconds. Not bad, right? Especially, when the massive proportions of the car suggest that the weight will easily jump over the two-tonne mark. Merc also claims that the car will be able to hit an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

Since the designers have kept the Maybachs of the olden days in mind while designing this coupe, the long hood, the rear-set passenger compartment and a boat-tail rear end seems to justify the classic roots. However, it is utterly modern and one can’t even mistake it for a 'classic car'. The aesthetics of the mega Maybach go on to impress with the gullwing doors, the candy red 24-inch (!) wheels, the massive signature Maybach front grille, sleek headlamps and taillights, and the chrome detailing on the sides.

Up inside, the Maybach 6 Concept flaunts opulent 2+2 (seating) interiors which are clothed in acres of fine leather, glass, and woodwork. Door to door, the interiors seem to flow seamlessly, with the side panels merging beautifully into the dashboard. Mercedes says that the front windscreen will also act as an information providing unit and will use augmented reality to convey geographical and other data regarding the surroundings to the driver. If it makes it to production, the car will also feature autonomous driving and other future techs such as wireless battery charging.

As far as the competition is concerned, the Maybach 6 can give the Rolls Royce Wraith a run for its money if Mercedes ever brings the car to life.
