MG Motor has inaugurated the India MG Car Club chapter in the run-up to the ‘MG Live!’ 2018 car meet. At a small event in front of the MG Car Club (MGCC) headquarters - the Kimber House in Abingdon, England - the first members of the India chapter inaugurated the club along with officials from MG Motor and MG Car Club. The India chapter is the fourth official MG Car Club in Asia, joining the MGCC Japan, MGCC Hong Kong and MGCC China.
What is the MG Car Club, you ask? The UK chapter of the club is more than 80-years old and was started by Cecil Kimber, the driving force behind MG Motor, and John Thornley, to bring the proud owners of MG cars under one umbrella. The club offers owners the benefit of being in a group of like-minded people who love their MG cars, providing technical support, ensuring the MG tradition is kept alive and organising various events throughout the world. The headlining event, the ‘MG Live!’, held every year at the Silverstone race track in the UK, will be held this year from June 2-3.
The first members of the India chapter include Amit Maheshwari (second from right) and Madan Mohan (extreme left). Also in attendance were Rajeev Chaba, President and Managing Director (second from left) and Adam Sloman, General Manager, MGCC (extreme right). Amit Maheshwari is the proud owner of a 1965 MG Midget which he restored from the ground up. Madan Mohan, on the other hand, has a garage with four MG cars, including two 1948 MG TCs, a 1951 MG TD and a 1958 MG MGA.
Like all official MG Car Clubs across the world, the India chapter will also receive its own unique badge, which will be revealed later.
There are many MG Motor owners and enthusiasts in India and we got a chance to attend one of their exhibition rallies earlier this year. The new MG Motor Car Club India chapter should help bring more attention to the brand and its cars in India and drive up the excitement around the brand in the run-up to its launch in the country in 2019.
