MG eZS will be amongst the first all-electric SUVs to hit our shores and will rival the Hyundai Kona EV

  • With local assembly, MG will look to price the eZS competitively.
  • Will be powered by a 110kW electric motor good for 110PS/350Nm.
  • The India-spec SUV is claimed to have a range of 350km.
  • Will come with iSMART connected tech seen on the Hector, but with a smaller infotainment.

MG Motor India seems to be on a roll. After the grand unveiling of the connected midsize SUV, the Hector, it will launch its second product in India in December. The British marque’s next offering in the country will be the eZS electric SUV which will be locally assembled at the carmaker’s plant in Halol, Gujarat. It had also teased a video of the first prototype being built in India recently.

The MG eZS will be powered by a 110kW electric motor that churns out 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque from the word go. Power is sent to the front wheels and the all-electric SUV can do 0-50kmph in 3.1 seconds. Powering the electric motor is a 45.6kWh battery pack that will provide a claimed range of 350km (UK-spec car does 78km more). The battery of the eZS SUV can be charged from zero to 80 per cent in half an hour using fast charging.

Talking about features, the MG eZS will come with the iSMART connected features seen on the recently unveiled Hector SUV. An embedded SIM enables the SUV to be connected to the internet and the carmaker’s external servers. With 24/7 internet connectivity on the eZS, you can control certain features of the car through the iSMART app and the 8-inch infotainment system. To know more about the connected tech, click here.

Other features expected on the India-spec eZS are full exterior LED lighting, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, dual-zone climate control and more.

The British Automotive marque also has plans to educate Indian customers about the advantages of EVs while eliminating range anxiety and apprehensions about electric car infrastructure. While the MG eZS was slated to be the first electric SUV to hit our roads, Korean carmaker Hyundai will spoil the party (just like it did with the connected tech) by bringing in the Kona EV here which debuts as India’s first all-electric SUV.

The MG eZS is expected to have a price tag of Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom pan India) when launched here. Apart from the eZS, the carmaker also has plans to bring more cars, SUVs and platforms to our market.
