MG has announced that it will showcase its second offering for India, the all-electric eZS SUV, by December with the launch is slated for early 2020. The eZS was expected to be launched by the festive season, which was then pushed to December 2019. The decision to push the launch date of the all-electric SUV could be a result of the brand’s efforts to develop better charging infrastructure before foraying into uncharted waters. And here’s how it plans to do that.

MG Motor India is partnering with Thailand-based Delta Electronics to install AC chargers in private vehicle parking spaces such as homes and offices. This is bound to be good news for potential eZS owners who will now be able to charge their SUVs effortlessly. MG also  stated that it has plans to educate Indian customers about the pros of EVs while addressing range anxiety and apprehensions about electric car infrastructure.

Speaking on the partnership, Gaurav Gupta, Chief Commercial Officer, MG Motor India, said, "We are committed to accessibility and convenience for our customers along with a quality product experience. Our partnership with Delta, a leading power and energy management company, is another aspect of our commitment to help us pioneer and further develop the ecosystem for EVs in India months ahead of the scheduled launch.”

The eZS will be powered by a 110kW electric motor that churns out 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque. The all-electric SUV is capable of hitting 0-50kmph in 3.1 seconds thanks to its 45.6kWh battery pack. MG claims the eZS will offer a range of 350km. The eZS also features fast charging that can be used to charge the battery from zero to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

All the standout features from the Hector, including the iSMART connected car tech, are expected to be offered in the eZS. Other features that are expected on the eZS include an 8-inch infotainment system, full exterior LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, cruise control and dual-zone climate control.

The MG eZS is already on sale in the UK, Thailand and China and when launched in India, it will be the second all-electric compact SUV in India. The Hyundai Kona Electric is the only rival to the eZS in India as of now.
