MG Motor India is gearing up to launch its flagship SUV, the Gloster. The full size, body-on-frame SUV from MG made its debut at Auto Expo 2020 and is set to be launched around Diwali. Pre-launch bookings are open for a token amount of Rs 1 lakh and you can reserve one via MG India’s website or through your closest MG dealership.
MG has been of late revealing the Gloster’s autonomous driving features. Now, it has revealed the Gloster’s specifications, features and engine details ahead of its launch. Here are all the deets:
Dimensions:
The MG Gloster is the largest SUV in its segment and that should give it massive road presence. It also has the largest wheelbase here and could be the roomiest SUV in its segment. It’s just that the MG is a tad narrower than the Mahindra Alturas G4. Here’s how the Gloster stacks up against its rivals in terms of dimensions:

Now to the Gloster’s piece de resistance: its super lengthy feature list. In typical MG fashion, the MG Gloster comes loaded to the gills with features. But what sets the MG apart from its rivals is its autonomous driving aids, dubbed Advanced Driver Assistance System. Highlights include:
Adaptive Cruise Control: This function allows you to set a speed and maintain a specific distance from the vehicle in front of you. If the person in front of you slows down, the Gloster will also automatically slow down and then pick up the set pace.
Lane Departure Warning: It ensures that the Gloster doesn’t veer away from the lane and stays inside it. If the driver accidently veers away from the lane, the Gloster’s multi-info display will warn you to move back into the lane.
Front Collision Warning: The sensors in the front will warn in case of a possible front collision.
Autonomous Emergency Braking: And in case of a possible collision, the Gloster will automatically brake to avoid collision with the other vehicle. This feature will be active up to speeds of 40kmph.
Auto Park Assist: This is one feature most of us have seen in premium cars. The Gloster is capable of steering itself into a parking lot and you only need to only take care of the accelerator and brakes. Ford was the first mass marker carmaker to introduce this with the Endeavour.
Other notable features in the Gloster include connected car tech, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, powered driver’s seat with a massage function, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. On the safety front, it should feature multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, parking sensors and electronic stability program.
Expected Prices And Rivals:
We expect a starting price of around Rs 35 lakh (ex-showroom). Its rivals include the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, and the Mahindra Alturas G4. But the MG tries to justify that premium with the Gloster’s technical wizardry and twin-turbo diesel engine.
