Facelifted MG Hector With 6 Seats To Launch Soon

• The facelifted Hector will get redesigned bumpers, grille, headlights and tail lamps.
• It is expected to be offered in a 6-seater layout with captain seats for the third row.
• The existing petrol and diesel engines are expected to be updated to comply with the BS6 norms.
• Expect the facelifted Hector to be priced at a premium of around Rs 1 lakh over the standard model.

Although the Hector is a relatively new SUV in the Indian market, MG Motor seems to be readying a facelifted version of the popular midsize SUV. We already know that the facelifted model will be launched with more seats than what is currently offered. And we also have a fair idea of what the facelifted SUV will look like as the updated model has already been launched in China in the form of the Baojun 530. Now, a set of spy shots have confirmed that MG has commenced production and testing of the Hector facelift with 6- and 7-seater layouts. 

The first set of images, allegedly from the MG’s plant in Halol, Gujarat, shows a blue Hector (a colour option which is not on offer currently) with different tail lamps and a revised rear bumper. The lower bumper gets a design overhaul where the reverse lights are now positioned as standalone units. Although the image of the front end is not of the best quality, we can expect changes to the front bumper, headlights and grille.

The second set of spy images show the facelifted Hector with 6 seats being tested on our roads. The images reveal the captain seats for the second row with bigger headrests unike the current Hector.  Moreover, the facelifted Hector that was launched in China is also 40mm longer than the existing SUV. It also received various cosmetic changes like a black front grille, new tail lamps, headlamps, bumpers and a new alloy wheel design.

Expect the Hector facelift to retain the current engine options - a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that’s good for 140PS and 250Nm of torque, and a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel motor that produces 170PS and 350Nm. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and a DCT. That said, both these engines are expected to be updated to meet upcoming BS6 emission norms. The latest set of spy images suggest that the British carmaker could launch the facelifted Hector with the new seating options in the coming days. The addition of a third row will help MG compete with Tata and Mahindra’s upcoming Gravitas and 2020 XUV500. While the current version of the Hector is priced from Rs 12.48 lakh to Rs 17.28 lakh (ex-showroom), we expect the facelifted model to be more expensive by around Rs 1 lakh across variants.
