MG Hector’s New ‘Shine’ Trim Launched At Rs Rs 14.52 Lakh

• It is positioned between the Super and Smart trims.

• Additional features include chrome door handles, keyless entry, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake, telescopic steering, and a single-pane sunroof.

• The accessory pack comprises leather seat cover, a wireless phone charger, an air purifier, rear window sunshades, steering wheel leather wrap, and 3D floor mats.

Updates keep coming for Morris Garages’ entry-level SUV in India, the Hector. This time, it is in the form of a new mid-spec trim called Shine, launched at Rs 14.52 lakh (ex-showroom). It is based on the second-from-base Super and is positioned between the Super and Smart trims. 

Considering it’s an upgrade over the Super, let’s look at how much more you need to cough up:

The new Shine retails at a premium of up to Rs 35,000 (for the petrol-manual variants) and Rs 50,000 (with the diesel powertrain) over the Super. It's also now the new entry point for the petrol-CVT, undercutting the Smart CVT by Rs 1.28 lakh.

So what’s new in the Hector Shine? Well, it gets everything from the Super, and then some. Additions come in the form of chrome-finished door handles, keyless entry using smart key, push-button start/stop, electric parking brake with auto-hold, a telescopic steering, and a single-pane sunroof. The last one is a first for the Hector, considering it is the only non-panoramic unit. 

But here’s the catch -- except for the sunroof, all other extra features are exclusive to the petrol-CVT powertrain.

Features aside, the SUV also gets a new Havana Grey body shade, which will be offered with all the trims except for the base-spec Style. That’s not all; the Shine also gets its own accessory pack comprising a leather seat cover, a wireless phone charger, an air purifier, rear window sunshades, steering wheel leather wrap, and 3D floor mats.

The Hector Shine has two engine options: a 143PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 170PS 2-litre diesel. A 6-speed manual transmission comes as standard, and the petrol mill can also be paired with an optional CVT. 

 What does the Shine miss out on? The turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain and dual-clutch automatic offered with the other two trims. 

The MG Hector retails from Rs 13.50 lakh to Rs 19.21 lakh (ex-showroom). The addition of a new mid-spec trim should certainly help the SUV better compete with its arch-rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and the Tata Harrier.
