The MG Hector Will Get Another Automatic Option Tomorrow

• Hector to get a CVT option with its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. 

• Its Indonesian cousin, the Wuling Almaz, also gets a CVT automatic option.

• CVT could be sold alongside the DCT at a more affordable price. 

• It rivals the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV500.

As if giving the MG Hector SUV a mid-life refresh in January wasn’t enough of an update, Morris Garages has more in store. This time, it is updating the SUV with a CVT automatic and will launch it on February 11. Interestingly enough, its Indonesian cousin, the Wuling Almaz, is already equipped with a CVT gearbox, instead of the DCT found in the India-spec Hector. 

Currently, the Hector is offered with a 170PS 2.0-litre diesel engine and a 143PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual as standard, with the petrol motor getting a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. The turbo-petrol manual engine also gets the option of a 48v mild-hybrid system. Like the Wuling Almaz, the CVT will be offered with the petrol motor only, and could be sold alongside the DCT option.

Since the DCT variants of the MG Hector are offered in the Smart and top-spec Sharp variants, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the CVT variants follow the same route. The only difference being, the CVT would be more affordable than the DCT priced from Rs 16.52 lakh to Rs 18.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Currently, the DCT variants carry a premium of Rs 76,000 and Rs 1.05 lakh over their manual counterparts.
