MG Motor is set to inaugurate its first dealership in the country on June 4. Located in Gurgaon, the upcoming dealership will be the carmaker’s flagship showroom in India. Bookings for the upcoming mid-size SUV, the Hector, will also begin on the same date. Those interested in buying the Hector can book their SUVs through MG Motor’s official website or 120 centres across India. The carmaker added that it will set up a total of 50 dealerships by the time the Hector goes on sale in June. These 50 dealerships will have 120 touch points across India and MG has promised that this number will further increase in the coming days.
The Hector comes loaded with a host of segment-first features, including connected car technology and a 48V mild hybrid system mated to a petrol engine. The talk of the town - the iSMART connected car features - employs a 10.4-inch vertically stacked Tesla-like touchscreen coupled with various other industry-first features. It uses a 4G SIM embedded into the SUV that allows users to access features like emergency calls, vehicle status, remote control for the sunroof, tailgate, door lock and a whole lot more, which you can find here.
The Hector will be available in four variants: Style, Super, Smart and Sharp. It’ll be offered with both diesel and petrol engine options. The Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine, which is shared with the Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier, produces 170PS of power and 350Nm of torque and comes paired with a 6-speed manual. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol will be offered with the same 6-speed manual mentioned above as well as a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic (DCT). This engine makes 143PS and 250Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine can also be had with a first of its kind 48-volt mild-hybrid system that is said to increase fuel efficiency by 12 per cent.
The Hector, which is expected to be priced between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), will rival the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass. Apart from the mid-size SUV, MG is also planning to launch various other SUVs in the near future, including the all-electric eZS and a 7-seater version of the Hector.
