MG Motor India sold a total of 4,225 units in July 2021, a staggering 101 percent increase compared to the same period last year. But the highlight reel was the ZS EV, which sold 404 units, its best figures ever since its launch in January 2020.
The ZS EV, priced from Rs 20.99 lakh (ex-showroom), is a more premium alternative to India’s bestselling electric vehicle, the Tata Nexon EV. The 2021 ZS EV, with more features and an updated battery pack, was launched in February 2021.
It continues with the same 44.5kWh battery pack, but thanks to the upgrade, it can now return a claimed range of 419km compared to the 340km in the 2020 model. The battery pack continues to power the same 143PS/353Nm electric motor, so there should be no difference in performance. The 2021 ZS EV comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car tech, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a powered driver seat, a panoramic sunroof, and a PM 2.5 AC filter. Passenger safety is taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors with a camera, electronic stability control, and tyre pressure monitoring.
The MG ZS EV rivals the Hyundai Kona Electric. The carmaker will soon offer the facelifted petrol ZS, which could be called the Astor. The upcoming SUV will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and the to-be-launched VW Taigun.
