MG Motor India has partnered with Exicom Tele-Systems for reusing the batteries in the upcoming ZS EV all-electric SUV. The batteries will be will be evaluated, disassembled and reused for non-automotive applications when they reach the end of their life cycle.The all-electric ZS will be revealed on December 5 with a launch set for January 2020.
The British carmaker has already commenced bookings through select dealers against a token amount of Rs 50,000. A price tag of around Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom) is expected for the MG ZS but it might also undercut the Kona Electric’s price tag of Rs 23.72 lakh.
MG’s partnership with Exicom ensures that the batteries are reused at the end of their lifetime. These battery packs, instead of being dumped into landfill sites, will be used for various non-automotive applications such as home inverters, commercial & industrial UPS, and renewable energy storage. The ZS EV uses a 45.2kWh battery pack enough for a driving range of around 428km (NEDC). The electric motor produces 150PS of power and 350Nm of torque (China spec). The ZS EV also supports fast charging capabilities which help it charge up from 0-80 percent in 40 minutes. MG will also offer the ZS with a free fast chargers for a limited period. MG has also installed fast chargers in Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru, the five cities where the ZS EV will be initially available. If you book the EV from any other city, MG has stated that it will install a charger free of cost.
The ZS EV was recently spotted testing in India, giving us a sneak peek of its cabin. The cabin follows an all-black theme with silver inserts and piano black trims. Features highlights include i-SMART connected car tech, an 8-inch infotainment system, single-zone climate control, a PM 2.5 AC filter, cruise control, a multi-info display, and a panoramic sunroof.
