MG’s next offering for India, the electric ZS EV is all set to be launched on January 23! We recently reported that MG will stop accepting bookings for the all-electric SUV on January 17. Packing an electric motor capable of a maximum range of 340km and a host of features, the ZS EV is all set to take on its only rival in India, the Hyundai Kona Electric.
MG commenced bookings for the ZS EV on December 21, 2019, against a token amount of Rs 50,000. The electric SUV will initially be available only in five cities: Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Bengaluru. When launched, there will be two variants on offer: Excite and Exclusive. The former is the entry-level variant, which will miss out on some key features to keep the entry-level price competitive. Further details of both variants and the features on offer this way.
At the heart of the matter is an electric motor capable of 143PS and 353Nm, helping the ZS EV post a 0-100 sprint time of 8.5 seconds. This motor draws energy from an IP67-rated 44.5kWh battery pack. MG claims the ZS EV can do 340km on a single charge. Normal charging time with a 7.4kWh wall box charger is around 6-8 hours while a fast charger will cut down this time drastically. For instance, the dash from 0-80 per cent will be accomplished in an hour.
Meanwhile, thanks to an RTO document, we also expect MG to launch a turbo petrol version of the ZS SUV soon. On another note, we’ve already got a taste of the future. Check out our first drive review of the ZS EV. MG has also informed that only the bookings made before January 17 will qualify for the introductory pricing. Speaking of pricing, we expect MG to retail the ZS EV from Rs 23 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.
