MG Motor India is working on the ICE-version of the ZS SUV that will rival the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The ZS petrol, which is based on the facelifted model, debuted at Auto Expo 2020 and will be launched later this year. Now, a trademark filed by MG suggests the ICE version could be called ‘Astor’ for distinction from the all-electric ZS EV.
The highlight of the ZS petrol is under the hood with the electric powertrain replaced by a petrol motor. MG is yet to narrow down on the powertrain, but the international model is offered with three options: a 111PS/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit, a 120PS/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, and a 160PS/230Nm 1.3-litre turbo-petrol motor. India could get the last option, paired with 6-speed manual and automatic options.
Apart from the engine, the ZS will be distinct from the ZS EV as it’s based on the facelifted model. It will come with a revised grille flanked by LED headlamps with angular DRLs. The bumpers at the front and rear are also different when compared to the EV. Save for the alloy wheels and tail lamps, the rest of the design is similar to the EV.

The interior, on the other hand, could be similar to the ZS EV. The only updates we expect are a digital driver’s display and the updated version of the i-SMART infotainment system with a bigger screen. Features such as a panoramic sunroof, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start will be retained.
The ZS is likely to be priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 15 lakh, putting it in the same league as the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta. It will be MG Motor India’s entry-level model when it goes on sale later this year.
