MINI seems to be on a mission to launch a model in every shape conceivable in the automobile world with the launch of the MINI Cooper Coupe, the fifth model in the MINI Cooper lineup. Nice we say.

MINI has recently launched the cool retro MINI Cooper Coupe making it the fifth model in the MINI line up which consists currently of the MINI Hatchback, MINI Convertible, MINI Clubman and MINI Countryman. The MINI Cooper Coupe sticking with traditional MINI character is built to be a thrilling driver oriented machine. MINI say that the Coupe driver will be rewarded with handling ability that is unmatched by any other car in the segment. The engine options, chassis set up, aerodynamics and weight distribution of the car are  designed and built from ground up to make it a dynamic performance machine.

On sale from 1st October 2011 in the UK , there are four engines on offer in the MINI Cooper Coupe, there is a four cylinder turbo charged diesel in the Mini Cooper SD Coupe. Then there is the base petrol with a 1.6 liter engine in the Mini Cooper Coupe variant. The middle of the range Mini Cooper S Coupe has a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol offering a 184bhp. The top of the line Mini Cooper John Cooper Works Coupe has the same 1.6 liter engine with a twin scroll supercharger as the Cooper S Coupe but has numerous technological details carried over from motorsport to push the power output upto 211bhp.

All MINI Coupe petrol models come with four cylinders which feature BMW’s VALVETRONIC technology, a fully variable valve system which adjusts valve lifts and opening timings in direct relationship to the angle of the driver’s right foot on the throttle pedal, delivering more torque and better fuel consumption at the same time.

The brakes on the MINI Cooper Coupe keep getting bigger and bigger as you move up the model line up.The standard six speed manual gearbox has a short-shift travel and precise action that sets a new benchmark in the segment. There is also a six speed automatic transmission with Steptronic function that are available on all the MINI Cooper Coupe models except the John Cooper Works Coupe.

Mini has kept its classic re-interpretation of the original Mini’s attractive design cues on the Coupe which means it can never be confused from any angle with any other car in its segment. However, the Mini Cooper Coupe is lower than the hatchback to give it a sporty profile. The windscreen and A pillar have been sharply raked to improve aerodynamics.  The Mini Cooper Coupe is the first Mini to adopt the ‘three box’ body structure of having separate boxes for the engine compartment, the passenger compartment and the boot.

MINI enthusiasts will instantly recognize the interior of the Coupe which has the traditional large sized circular speedo in the centre of the dashboard, chrome toggle switches and numerous other trademark MINI features. The large 280 liter boot (20 liters larger than the clubman) can be accessed both from inside the cabin aswell as from the outside. There are two spoilers on the Coupe to optimize airflow, one is integrated over the rear of the roof and the other is an active rear spoiler on the boot lid.

The active spoiler deploys automatically when the car reaches 80 kph and retracts when the car slows down to 59 kph. The rear spoiler can also be operated manually by a button in the overhead control panel. The Coupe is the first car in the MINI lineup to feature an active rear spoiler. The active spoiler in essence reduces lift on the rear axle to provide more grip to the rear wheels thereby improving balance.

All MINI Cooper Coupe models come with a sport button on the centre console, when depressed it sharpens up the response of the engine and the car takes up sportier reactions via steering and throttle inputs which provide a more responsive feel to the driver.

All of the MINI Cooper Coupe models come loaded with the brand’s critically acclaimed MINIMALISM environmental technology as standard. Features like Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start/Stop, Shift Point Display and an Electric Power Steering to reduce fuel consumption all help make the MINI Cooper Coupe the cleanest coupe in it’s segment.
