Moto Guzzi owned by the Piaggio Group expanded its Indian portfolio by launching two new motorcycles in the Indian market. The latest addition to the Italian bikemakers portfolio are the V9 & MGX-21. Both the new motorcycles have been brought via the CBU route and will offered on sale at exclusive Motoplex showrooms in Pune, Chennai, Kochi, Hyderabad and Chennai. The Moto Guzzi will V9 will be available in two variants - Roamer and Bobber which carry a sticker price of Rs 13.6 lakh and Rs 13.9 lakh respectively. The Moto Guzzi MGX-21 will retail for Rs 27.78 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom Pune).
The Moto Guzzi V9 will be the most affordable motorcycles from the Italian manufacturer in our market and have been positioned as easy to use cruisers. The V9 Roamer has a more traditional design element with chrome parts that are synonymous with cruiser while the V9 Bobber goes for a stealth black paint scheme that will appeal to youngsters. The V9 range is powered by the new 850cc twin cylinder Euro 4 engine which is good enough for 56PS and 61Nm of peak torque. The Moto Guzzi V9 cruiser gets interesting features like ABS, adjustable traction control that can also be disabled, immobilizer and a USB port.
Speaking about the launch, Stefano Pelle, Managing Director and CEO Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (PVPL) said, “It is a proud moment for us at the Piaggio Group as we bring to India these exclusive bikes from Moto Guzzi. These bikes are an epitome of Italian heritage and their launch in India coincides with the 95th anniversary of the brand. Motorcycle lovers will now be able to experience the luxurious feel of these superbikes on Indian terrain. We aim to reach out to patrons in India across all segments with our diverse product range from Vespa, Aprilia and now Moto Guzzi at varied price points. These bikes from Moto Guzzi offer a unique way of looking at a bike trip – one filled with adventure, discovery and freedom.”
The Moto Guzzi MGX-21 will be the flagship offering from the Italian brand for our two-wheeler market. The MGX-21 has an in your face styling with bagger design ethos and is an imposing looking motorcycle. In fact, such is the proportion of the MGX-21 that Moto Guzzi has given it the tag of ‘Flying Fortress’. The Batmobile-styled front fairing, the red engine colours, low tail section and the hard saddlebags are the deign highlights of the machine. Carbon fibre has been used extensively on the MGX-21 which includes tank panels, front mudguard, case covers and saddle.
Interestingly Moto Guzzi engineers have used carbon fibre wheel covers on the 21-inch front wheel which according to them increases stability at high speeds. The bike had made its debut at the 2016 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and was designed at PADC (Piaggio Advanced Design Centre) in California. Providing firepower is the 1,380cc displacement transverse-mounted V-twin motor producing 97PS of power at 6,500rpm and peak torque of 121Nm made available at 3,000rpm. The Moto Guzzi MGX-21 is a “made to order” motorcycle and gets equipped with an entertainment system, ABS, adjustable traction control, Ride-by-Wire and cruise control.
