Amidst the glitzy new bikes that MV Agusta showcased before EICMA, including the Superveloce 800 and the Brutale 1000 RR, it also brought its MY2020 range of the Brutale 800 and the Dragster 800. Both bikes have received updates that are minimal and mostly aesthetic. Yes, MV Agusta has not updated the engine to meet upcoming emission norms in Europe or India. This means that the new Brutales and Dragsters will not be coming to our shores before 2021.
Given that motorcycle manufacturers have received a year’s extension, i.e. until 2021, to update their existing models to Euro 5 emission norms, MV Agusta has not updated the motor. Hence, the 798cc triple-cylinder motor remains similarly tuned as before. On the standard Brutale 800 as well as the Dragster 800, this engine pumps out 110PS and 83Nm while on other models, the power is turned up to 140PS while torque is boosted by 3Nm. In fact, the Dragster 800 RC’s engine produces 150PS. This is thanks to MV Agusta’s Reparto Corse kit, which contains the custom SC Project exhaust and race ECU.
The standard variants of the Brutale and Dragster are now called Rosso editions. The pumped up RR editions arrive with an option of an SCS 2.0 unit. For the uninitiated, SCS means Smart Clutch System which allows riders to start riding or come to a halt without using the clutch. And given that the bikes are kitted with bi-directional quickshifters, clutchless shifting should also not be an issue.
There are no changes reported in the mechanical department of either motorcycle. Suspension duties are handled by a 43mm Marzocchi USD fork and Sachs monoshock while Brembo monobloc calipers on the front wheel bring the bike to a halt. A multi-level ABS system comes as standard.
