India’s 15th Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ditched his trusted Mahindra Scorpio and has opted for an armoured BMW 760Li High Security edition. Mahindra Scorpio has long been part of the PM's political carrier, right up to the point when he was sworn in. He was driven to the swearing-in ceremony in his high security Mahindra Scorpio.
It was earlier speculated that Narendra Modi could choose the India-made Mahindra Scorpio as his official car. However, all the speculations were put to rest when he reached his new office in the BMW 7 Series. The Mahindra Scorpio was Modi’s choice of wheels during his election campaigning across the nation.
Anand Mahindra, Chairman and Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra, was reported saying that it would be a moment of pride for every Indian if Narendra Modi chooses the indigenous Scorpio as his official mode of transport.
However, it is the Special Protection Group (SPG), tasked with providing close-quarters security cover to the PM, that takes a call on the matter, which chose the BMW flagship. The BMW 760Li High Security Edition is claimed to be the safest vehicle in India, capable of protecting occupants from almost everything the enemies can throw at it, like swarming bullets and loud bombs.
The BMW 7 Series is able to secure the passengers from landmine blasts to Kalashnikov’s bullets. This luxurious saloon can run long even on flat tyres and are loaded with advanced heat sensors to parish missiles and bombs as well. The fuel tanks don’t explode even on attack, while the cabin automatically turns into a gas proof chamber and offers proper supply of oxygen to secure the passenger in case of gas attack.
The PM’s convoy fleet is reported to contain multiple 760 Li Security Editions and a few BMW X5s as well.
