The journey began from Padua in north-eastern Italy, passing through Modena and finally concluded in Rome, covering about 550km

Looks like working for the Italian police force has a few perks. Don’t get us wrong, law enforcement is a serious job indeed. But, what if you’re asked to deliver time-bound donor organs in a Lamborghini Huracan official vehicle at full pin? Doesn’t sound bad for a day job now, does it?

On December 20, the Italian police went on a life-saving journey. It involved delivering two kidneys to patients who were hundreds of miles apart. Now, because delivering a kidney isn’t as critically time-bound as a heart, transportation through a helicopter was avoided, as it was kept ready for other emergencies.

Still, a kidney can only be kept fresh for around 24 to 36 hours, so getting the pair delivered in time was critical. This is where the Lamborghini Huracan comes in. The police used the supercar to deliver the organs from Padua in north-eastern Italy, with a stop in Modena and then in Rome, covering a total distance of around 550km.

The car used was a specially modified example, which was a gift from the carmaker to the Italian police force in 2017. The car is draped in Italian police colours sporting the blue and white livery with ‘Polizia’ written on the doors. We gotta say, the livery suits the Lamborghini pretty well.

The 5.2-litre naturally aspirated V10-powered Huracan, which belts out more than 550PS and 500Nm helped saved the lives of the two patients. The Italian police wished the two individuals and their family a happy and peaceful Christmas through their social media handle.

Other vehicles in the Italian police forces' stable include the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Land Rover Discovery, and even a Lamborghini Gallardo. Not the most outlandish police garage, but it's not drab is it?
