The cruiser motorcycle will be powered by an 1800cc boxer engine
  • The new cruiser motorcycle is likely to hit the showrooms by 2020.
  • The 1800cc boxer engine was showcased in a custom motorcycle at the Handbuilt Show in Austin, Texas.
  • When launched, it’ll rival the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and Indian Chieftain Dark Horse.
  • BMW Motorrad’s upcoming cruiser motorcycle has been recently spied testing. The spy shots reveal some interesting details about the upcoming classic-looking bagger. It gets a huge fairing, a big windscreen, circular dials on the instrument panel and hard case saddlebags. These design elements suggest that BMW Motorrad is targeting the Harley-Davidson and Indian touring range with the upcoming motorcycle. However, while most of the cruisers have forward-set footpegs, BMW’s upcoming cruiser has mid-set footpegs because of the boxer engine.

The spy shots indicate that the cruiser bike is almost production ready. Although the images are a little blurred, the not-so-subtle-looking boxer engine is clearly visible. The most intriguing aspect of this engine is its origin.

Recently, Texas-based mod house, Revival Cycles, showcased their newest creation, the Birdcage, at the Handbuilt Show in Austin, Texas. The Birdcage uses a BMW Motorrad-sourced 1800cc boxer engine, which BMW Motorrad has confirmed will also power the upcoming BMW cruiser motorcycle.

BMW Motorrad will showcase a production-spec cruiser motorcycle with the boxer engine at the 2019 EICMA Motor Show. Expect it to launch the cruiser motorcycle in India by 2020 as a CBU unit. When launched, it will go up against the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special and the Indian Chieftain Dark Horse.
