Here are nine things you need to know if you consider buying the all-new 2015 Datsun Go Plus!
1. Peppy engine:
A 1.2-litre engine making 68PS of power and 104Nm of torque might not look great on paper, but the Datsun Go Plus certainly feels more powerful. The 3-cylinder engine loves to be revved and sounds great. That said, most of its power is in the mid range and the engine does feel a little strained if revved all the way to the limit.
2. Easy to drive:
The Datsun Go Plus is aimed at the first time car buyer and the way it is set up clearly shows Datsun knows a thing or two about that. Not only does the engine provide power in a very gradual and linear way, the clutch and brakes are also set up in a way that will help first time buyers. The gear lever too is placed in an easy to reach place where novice drivers will find it easy to use.
3. Lack of features:
An aspect that the Go+ really struggles to keep up with everything else in its segment are features. For starters, the glove compartment doesn’t get a lid and the second and third row passengers do not even get an inertia reel seatbelt. What is more annoying though is the fact that the ORVMs cannot be adjusted from the cabin, a feature that should not have been skipped.
4. Good interior quality:
The Datsun Go Plus might be low on features but it certainly doesn’t feel cheaply built. In fact, the Go Plus certainly has some of the best fit and finish in its class and offers premiumness in terms of the touch and feel of the plastics and switchgear quality. In fact, even little things like the headlight and wiper stalks or the AC knobs feel solid and premium.
5. Seven seats?…not really.
The main attraction for most customers will be the extra two seats that the car offers. Although the Go Plus does have seven seats that adhere to the ARAI specification of what can be defined as a seat in India, the third row is inconvenient to get into and there is no way two fully grown adults could sit there comfortably unless of course they choose to sit sideways. These seats are best suited for children under the age of 10 or your family dog.
6. Ample storage space:
As we mentioned earlier, the Datsun Go Plus is really a five seater with a large boot. Although you could keep the third row of seats open and use the space that they offer to store luggage, the smart thing to do would be to fold them flat and enjoy the 347 litres of space that the Go Plus offers. If you do consider using the rear seats for your children though, the Go Plus has almost negligible usable space at a mere 48 litres.
7. Simple infotainment system:
The Datsun Go Plus comes with the same simple infotainment system from the Go hatchback. A simple USB charger combined with an AUX input port is all you get. There is a cradle for putting your smartphone or iPod there but most larger new phones don’t really fit anyways. In fact, most Go hatchback buyers we have had the chance to interact with have upgraded their infotainment systems and we expect Go Plus buyers to do the same.
8. Ride quality:
The most impressive aspect of the Go+ though has to be the way it rides over rough surfaces. Not only does the go plus feel comfortable on bad roads, the way it absorbs bumps is noteworthy too. That said the front end does tend to bottom out on larger potholes. All in all though, the Datsun Go Plus certainly has a more pliant ride than anything else that is in the same price range.
9. Safety:
Although the Datsun Go Plus with a drivers side airbags has officially been launched, it will only be available in the second half of 2015 to customers. Not only will the airbag improve the crash safety ratings of the Datsun Go Plus when tested by Euro NCAP for crash safety tests, it will also give future customers some peace of mind in case of any unforeseen incidents. The addition of airbags to this particular car that has been tagged as a Compact Family Wagon will be even more important since the Go Plus could be the vehicle of choice for a lot of families looking for more space.
