Triumph is set to bring forth a wave of new updates for its largest adventure motorcycle, the Tiger 1200. The largest kitty in the British brand’s lineup is set to be updated to Euro 5 emission norms. However, the changes to the bike aren’t just limited to the engine.
To begin with, the 1200cc inline three-cylinder motor might see a bump up in displacement to meet Euro 5 emission norms. This isn’t new, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 became the Multistrada 1260 and the BMW R 1200 GS became the R 1250 GS. Also, with the latest middleweight Tiger 900, Triumph has changed the firing order from 1-2-3 to 1-3-2 with the engine tuned for better mid-range performance.
The split-type frame from the Tiger 900 also seems to make its way onto the new big Tiger. This has resulted in a slimmer rider’s section and more accomodating rider’s triangle. The bodywork looks sleeker, with extra air scoops for better airflow around the rider.
It seems like the new Tiger 1200 has a larger 21-inch front wheel with laced spoke wheels. The bling suspension units on the test mule suggest Triumph has switched suppliers from WP to Ohlins. The rear monoshock might just be electronically adjustable as there is a separate canister located on the left side of the bike. Gone is the single-sided swingarm, making way for a more conventional twin sided unit. There is also a torque compensator on the right side as power transmission continues to be by means of a shaft drive.
The upcoming EICMA 2020 is likely to be the arena where we will see Triumph unleashing its large cat. This large Tiger will hit our shores come 2021 with a price hike of Rs 1 lakh-Rs 1.5 lakh.
